Resolutions: Extraordinary Seesion of General Conference
22 September 1998, Suzhou, China

 

  1. With the retirement of Mr. Kazumasa INAHASI, Director General of Japan and Chairman of EASTICA, and the resignation of Ms Maria Helena EVORA, Director of the Macao Historical Archives, Vice Chairman of EASTICA, replacements were recommended by the Executive Board and the appointments were formalized in the Extraordinary Session as follows:

 

    Chairman :

    Mr. Kanji TAKAOKA
      Director General of National Archives of Japan
    Vice Chairman : Miss Maria Fatima LAU
      Director of Macao Historical Archives

     

  1. Amendments to the Constitution of EASTICA, the latter adopted at the Inaugural Conference held in Beijing, China on 7-10 July 1993, were approved unanimously by voting members. Details include:

    i

    Membership
      Membership was changed from four categories to five categories comprising
      A. National/territorial archives
      B. National/territorial associations of archivists
      C. Institutional members
      D. Individual members
      E. Honorary members
    ii Voting right for members in Category B
      National/territorial association shall have one vote. In any country where there is more than one member in category B, a second vote will be allocated. It is the responsibility of members of Category B to establish procedures for agreeing the appointment of the two delegates to exercise their votes.
    iii Nomination and award of Honorary Members
      Honorary members are nominated and elected by the Executive Board and the award will be made in the General Conference.
    iv Term of office of the Executive Board
      For the purpose of continuity and operational efficiency, effective from the next General Conference in 1999 when new leadership is elected, the term of office for members of the Executive Board will be changed from 2 years to 4 years.
    v Admission of new members
      To streamline admission procedures, the power to admit new members to EASTICA is delegated to the Executive Board.
